Interest on arrears
A 15 year lease has just ended and it transpires that every quarter the rent was paid in arrears instead of in advance as stipulated in the lease. My tenant's leaving and has asked about whether he'll be entitled to interest on his deposit, which is held with the DPS. I'd always assumed that any interest accruing was kept by the DPS to finance the scheme; but I can't find a definitive answer on the internet.
The DPS site says the...

Calculating yield - have I got it all wrong?
Would it be incorrect when calculating yields only to consider the cash invested and not the borrowed sum? i.e. If I borrow £37k (being 70% of total sum required) my cash investment is £16k. After stripping out interest and fees my net income would be £2500. On my cash investment that is 15.6%. ...

Claiming interest on mortgage for lodgers
I am a live-in landlord with two lodgers.
I am filling in my tax return for 08-09 and trying to figure whether to use rent-a-room relief or claim expenses.
The crux of it is how much, if any, of the interest on my mortgage I can claim as an expense. As I see it, if I can...
