  • Poor fish indeed. I feel sorry for animals that find themselves pets of irresponsible owners and people who see them as things rather than lives.

  • Has he considered using a dehumidifier? I switched my tumble dryer for one a few years ago, much more energy efficient plus useful for general humidity control during winter. My clothes will dry within 5-6 hours. Can't stand that musty smell from clothes being damp too long...

Agreed, I'm not going to try to go down that road anyway as it would break down relations with the landlord and cause more hassle than it's worth. Will have to wait until I get my own place.

  • You'll likely know better than most that - just like humans - cats and dogs vary as individuals. Just as some people will be hard to educate in school or work with, some pets will learn/behave better than others and no one say 100% that a cat or dog will or won't cause damage. Hence there will always...

I think the latter is the case here. When I originally asked the LLs said they have a no pets rule now as they've had bad experiences with tenants and pets in the past (they rent out quite a few properties). I've only been there a few months so far and already asked for pets, permission to plant in...

Thanks jpkeates, I'll happily reply to LL agreeing. I'm not concerned about any issues with co-habiting relationship-wise with as we're both fairly mature and civil (though its true you never know), my main concern was just finding out down the line from LL/LA that I'd inadvertently agreed to something...

    Permitted Occupier

I currently rent a house and live alone, but have asked LL is they are happy for my partner to move in. LL manages the property but used LA to source T. LL has conferred with LA and come back saying the LA advised the best option is for my partner to become a "permitted occupier". They said...

  • I lived with various cats for 20 years or so and found while most didn't cause any issue or damage, some did like to claw the stairs carpets but only when young. But then they had other cats and children to play with, a garden and woods to explore and trees to scratch. A solo cat kept in a second floor...

With respect you did receive advice, even if it's not what you were hoping to hear, plus it's free.
£522 does seem very excessive though. I was in a similar situation previously with an outstanding bill for £72 which was sold and in the end I had to pay £121 with the debt companies bill added....

  • JK0, that sounds like an aquarium! I hope the tenant shared the proceeds of their ticket sales with you

I can empathize with both sides. I'm a tenant and would love pets, I recently asked my landlord if they minded me keeping hamsters, but they said they've had bad experiances in the...

  • Drinking water contaminated with legionella won't do you any harm unless you gag/choke and water gets into the lungs. Legionellosis is essentially a lung infection most commonly caused by inhaling contaminated droplets. The bacteria prefers stagnant water and 20-45 degrees to multiply, so as AlexR...

  • I don't have the legal expertise to comment on the chances of success in court, However considering you say he was a good landlord, he did correct it, you got your full deposit back, now have a bigger/cheaper home and come out better than expected, I would let it go if I were you.

    Welcome.
What specifically are we talking about in terms of damage? As far as I'm aware, you can't deduct from deposit for fair wear and tear; if the tenant has looked after it as well as reasonably possible and been there a few years and it's slightly worn or light sofa indentation I wouldn't...
