Move address before the 1st April?

    Hi all,
I am in negotiations to buy a second property, but this will not complete until after the 1st of april... The property that I am currently living in I will rent out... and i will have to pay the additional stamp duty...
If by moving address before 1st april ie: to a property that I do not own and advertise the current house to rent before this date will i be avoiding the new tax?
    Any advice would be appreciated
    Thanks
    legepe

Stamp Duty Land Tax ( SDLT) is payable when a buyer registers the purchased property under his/her name at Land Registry.

It has nothing to do with your moving address.

If the present property is in mortgage have you sought either a Consent to Let or a Consumer Let to Buy. If not you are breaching the terms of your mortgage and by default committing mortgage fraud, furthermore have you notified your insurance company that it is being let out, Have you a valid Gas Safety certificate ? It isn't straight forward as you are initially querying in this post.
