Legal Expenses in Releation to Rental Property

I have a rental property whereby someone stole my identity and put an illegal charge on the property. I had to hire a solicitor to remove the illegal charge plus try and stop a repossession because of the fraudster taking money via the illegal charge. Are my legal fees ALLOWABLE expenses on my income tax return?

As long as they were incurred solely and exclusively for the rental property (i.e. that was the only property involved) yes they are allowable.
When I post, I am expressing an opinion - feel free to disagree, I have been wrong before.
Please don't act on my suggestions without checking with a grown-up (ideally some kind of expert).

Was your name & address on land registry at that rental property? If so, change to your home address & two different emails. Or was this something else?

I am legally unqualified: If you need to rely on advice check it with a suitable authority - eg a solicitor specialising in landlord/tenant law...

Register to monitor all land registry enquiries on your rental properties and put a restriction on the title https://www.gov.uk/government/public...egistration-rq
