  • Scottish independence, for or against?

Should the Scotts go independent? Would we miss them? Any Scotts here? Living close to the Scottish Border I would be suprised if they went independent and most people from Scotland I speak to are dead against it. Would love to hear any opinions.

    Do the English want independence?
I am legally unqualified: If you need to rely on advice check it with a suitable authority - eg a solicitor specialising in landlord/tenant law...

If it will stop the artfullodger from posting with that fake Scots spelling then I'm all for it.

It's surely a matter for the Scots, not for the English. Most of the regulars on LLZ are not Scots.

I cannot vote as I live in the South East Of the Empire,so I am in good company with Sean Connery.

Up to them really, as long as they don't take back Greggs. Or 20 year old Scotch.

If you mean Billy Connolly, I must disagree. He's a legend!

Perhaps they could keep nasty fast food instead. The sort on offer in roadside restaurants near Perth and Peebles.

I'm not sure if it's what you meant Artful, but you raise an interesting question. Would it be possible for England to leave the UK?

Just as possible as it is for any other constituent country to leave. In a sense all countries are equal. They just have the oddity that they are subject to the same government. It seems to many Scots, Welsh and Irish though that they are ruled by the English because the UK capital is in England and because the English are in the majority. They do sort of have a point.

A referendum is needed in Scotland to clear the air. The time is long overdue to let the Scots decide their future.

Indeed: Bank of England, Queen of England, English language... Why, even I am English !! (or Engerlish as some, not I, pronounce it - apologies to any offended....)

I've been of the view for over 50 years (hardly original idea of course..) that we are living through the further decline of the English Empire, and that Gibraltar, Scotland, Northern Ireland, etc etc will one by one drop off, in some timescale, that great oxymoron "The United Kingdom". Others may hold alternative views..

English Empire?? Usage certainly during WW2 was to speak of "England" as meaning UK - a habit the merkins still use.. (like asking Nigel Farage if he's happy being German...).

Certainly as lawcruncher says an air-clean will be helpful I suspect/hope..

As to clearing the air, I suspect when it comes to being independent there will be cheers of "Aw Reet".

Then the sums get done, and people will have to "doneer oot tae vote" and I would guess it will be closer than we might think.

The last paragraph tickled me. Flat would likely still be secure if mortice lock was engaged.

Theresa May seems determined to hang on to power.

Your predictions are invited as to how long she can survive.

I give her until August/September, when she'll cynically call another election, thinking she can dent the student vote. (She's wrong).

Faecal contaminants in ice cubes are probably the least of your problems in fast food outlets. If you knew what goes into some of the food you would not touch it, let alone eat it.
