Guys: Ditch Windoze, move to free, more-secure, quicker Linux & nae (errr.... well, rather fewer & different..) problems....

Why people keep paying Bill Gates £££ when there's a better, free, alternative is beyond me, but what do I know eh???

Sorry artfull but I beleive that Linux is a hoax- I have tried a full install, cd version usb version, of ubuntu mint and other variations and on two different machines it will not run at all.Over time thats two days of mucking around I won't ever get back.

So when it comes to Penquins, I'll stick to the chocolate ones

highlighted in blue and underlined ?

Then you have "adware" on your system.

To get rid of it ( And also that arrow in a square which is an
        accelerator )
        go to
Tools / manage add-ons , go to search providers on left, and
        accelerators:

then on right, right click on the ones you want to remove and
that will get rid of some.

Also, for the blue arrow in a square ( an accelerator ) you
also need to choose tools / internet options / advanced, and
under Browsing, make sure the box next to Display accelerator
        button, is cleared / blank.

That get rids of a few annoying things.
Failing that, run spybot ( warning - it checks for 830 thousand
items, ) and can take up to 45 minutes to check. Disable your
screen saver and hibernation and power down options for best
        results.
( switch off screen as well )

Hope that helps get rid of a few nasties, even if not the
        underlining one.

        R.a.M.

            Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggggggghhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Now, almost every time I click on a forum in LLZ, a 'survey' pops up and you have to manually delete it before you can get back to the forum. I'm sure they are bogus and I never respond, but it's even more irritating than the highlighting.

Please can anyone tell me what's going on? Is it a virus on my laptop?

What can I do to stop the relentless barrage of surveys? And also, why does the page jump from side to side every time I click on something?

Sounds like you have a few virus's.

I don't know which anti-virus software you use, but I think you need to change it.

We use the free version of AVG. You can download it at the link below.

AVG does not catch all of the Adware.

Because AVG slows down your ( My ) computer, I only load it
to do a scan, then delete it.
Then I run spybot, ( Anti-Spyware software ) which is designed
specifically to catch Adware, and also most viruses.

Sounds like mind the gap has adwear.

                  MTG - Calm down dear

Which browser, IE or FF etc ,and which version, do you use, and what antivirus or internet security do you have?

Then I and am sure others will try and work through your settings to stop this.

Have you tried using someone else’s computer to see that it doesn’t happen? I am not aware of any of the issues you have mentioned being related to LLZ, which I access using a variety of computers each with different internet security software.

Fox News Tech take mentioned Ghostery which blocks trackers and adware and I have installed it on the laptop at the flat. It has the option of showing what's being blocked.

And it has a really cool Purple Ghost on the tool bar menu too

However if you remote access as I do via Log Me In, from the Shed, or use a VPN, you get blocked.

Many thanks for all the suggestions. Problem now resolved (after much scanning and re-booting and mild to moderate language, as they say in the film trailers).

The Daily Mail Newspaper ( 19 July 2017 ) reported " the ice served by some leading fast food chains in their soft drinks is contaminated by faecal bacteria, it has been revealed "

The contamination is likely to have occurred because the ice or ice-making machines have been...

Faecal contaminants in ice cubes are probably the least of your problems in fast food outlets. If you knew what goes into some of the food you would not touch it, let alone eat it.

Freezing bacteria doesn't often kill them, cooking them has a better kill rate.
Essentially, people need to wash their hands properly and they don't.

You're meant to wash them while you sing happy birthday twice (slowly) so you do it long enough.

I worked in McDonalds and various pubs while doing my A Levels/taking my gap year.

Today's big news revealed 408 cases of acid attack and disfigurement of the face since Nov 2016.

Victims can be scarred for life and suffer huge loss of earning during the remainder of their life.

Any ideas on how to help the victims ? What is the proper punishment for...

                          I agree.

It doesn't require any change in the law to achieve that, though.
Being scarred by acid is the same as being scarred with any weapon (if quicker).

If the victim suffers life time scarring , its fitting for the attacker to be given life time imprisonment.
