      This tickled me:
To save them chiming in, JPKeates, Theartfullodger, Boletus, Mindthegap, Macromia, Holy Cow & Ted.E.Bear think the opposite of me on almost every subject.

This is quite remarkable - the first paragraphs explain it all.

Interesting history story here about events in August 1971. Shocking that the treasury civil servants misled the prime minister.

In an advert posted on Gumtree, pictures of the Glasgow 'office' show a desk and filing cabinet pushed up against the wall, right next to the toilet - with a kettle and coffee and tea just inches away.

We now live in a world, where bizarro headlines such as the ones below, have become a daily if not hourly occurrence: *TREASURY TO STUDY IMPACT OF CLIMATE ON HOUSEHOLDS, COMMUNITIES *TREASURY LAUNCHES EFFORT ON CLIMATE-RELATED FINANCIAL RISKS *BRAINARD: CLIMATE-SCENARIO ANALYSIS WILL HELP IDENTIFY RISKS *BRAINARD: CLIMATE CHANGE COULD HAVE PROFOUND ECONOMIC EFFECTS *MESTER: FED LOOKS AT CLIMATE CHANGE FROM VIEW OF RISKS TO BANKS *FED IS TAKING THE RIGHT COURSE ON MONITORING CLIMATE CHANGE *FED SHOULD CONSIDER CLIMATE-CHANGE RISK TO FINANCIAL SYSTEM Now, in case someone is still confused, none of these institutions, and not a single of the erudite officials running them, give a rat's ass about the climate, about climate change risks, or about the fate of future generations of Americans (and certainly not about the rising water level sweeping away their massive waterfront mansions): if they did, total US debt and underfunded liabilities wouldn't be just shy of $160 trillion.

                              Words fail me.....

                              https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/169232...-bottom-shell/

THE bomb squad raced to an A&E after a patient arrived with an artillery shell stuck up his behind.

Army explosives experts were scrambled after medics feared the anti-tank round could be about to explode.
                              .....
The unnamed patient told doctors he “slipped and fell” on the 17cm by 6cm armour-piercing projectile taken from his private arsenal of military collectables.

It was later identified as being a World War Two 57mm shell that were typically fired from six-pounder anti-tank guns.
