Interesting but they are trying to sell a book! Has Macron got it right? Or Merkel? Of course our response was far from perfect but so was everyone else's and hindsight is 20/20. I am grateful for 2 things a) Corbyn was not PM - imagine him having been in charge...and b) we don't have to pay the bill for the EU's recovery! Stay safe (had Covid at New Year..)

The Sunday Times Insight team (that exposed Thalidomide..) journalists have published a book, "Failure of State" worth a look..
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Failures-St.../dp/0008430527

The inside story of the UK’s response to the pandemic from the Insight investigations unit at The Sunday Times

Failures of State: The Inside Story of Britain’s Battle with Coronavirus recounts the extraordinary political decisions taken at the heart of Boris Johnson’s government during the global pandemic.

Meticulously researched and corroborated by hundreds of inside sources, politicians, emergency planners, scientists, doctors, paramedics and bereaved families, along with leaked data and documents, this is the insider’s account of how the government sleepwalked into disaster and tried to cover up its role in the tragedy – and it exposes one of the most scandalous failures of political leadership in British history.

In the eye of the storm was Boris Johnson, a Prime Minister who idolised Winston Churchill and had the chance to become a hero of his own making as the crisis engulfed the nation. Instead he was fixated on Brexit, his own political destiny and a myriad of personal issues, all while presiding over the UK government’s botched response to the global coronavirus pandemic. After missing key Cobra meetings, embracing and abandoning herd immunity and dithering over lockdown, Johnson left the NHS facing an unmanageable deluge of patients. His inaction resulted in the deaths of many thousands of British people and his own hospitalisation at the hands of the pandemic, yet further reckless decisions allowed a deadly second wave to sweep across the country in the autumn months with the economy on the brink of collapse.

With access to key figures at the top of government during the most tumultuous year of modern British history, Failures of State is an exhaustive and thrillingly told story – and one of the most essential pieces of investigative reporting for a generation.

Apples with apples...each country counts in different ways. If you test positive and get run over by a bus up to 28 days after you "died with covid" (note the stats do not say of). It will be a while before the figures can make a true comparison. No point having an inquiry now - I agree there should be one but we need to beat this thing first (or learn to live with it). No country has it right (except perhaps NZ but there are reasons..)

The real conspiracy is how the UK ended up with world-beating high death rates are OK, largest for countries with 20m+ population according to "The Times" for the past many weeks, and there's no inquiry scheduled, government not as unpopular as many would expect, the press and media not commenting much about this.

Airlines already check that people have other vaccinations before allowing them to check in or board, because, otherwise, if the person is denied access to the country because they don't have the vaccinations necessary to enter the country, they have to fly them back.
So that wouldn't be a change.
As it already happens today I can't see why anyone could object.

I don't see any reason that a pub or anywhere else shouldn't ask for proof that you're vaccinated (or require you to take a test and wait before entering).
If you're too selfish to take the small but non-zero risk of being vaccinated for the good of the people around you, you can't complain about being inconvenienced.

The vaccine question is interesting. I think you have a perfect right to refuse JKO as i have a right to choose to be vaccinated. If I meet you and you don't tell me you have refused how would I know to treat you any differently? The question comes next however, do institutions have the right to say "only vaccinated people may enter my pub" for example. I think (if the government introduces some form of ID or legislation) they do. It is their choice as it is your choice not to be vaccinated. Hopefully for you there will be some establishments which allow unvaccinated people. That is their choice. What if airlines insist? Fine by me. I would rather sit on a plane with covid negative / vaccinated people than those whose status is unknown. Not that I am planning to go abroad this year - the wonderful UK for me. If you don't get vaccinated and refuse a test you are probably choosing not to fly, which is fine. I do not understand the I AM A VICTIM stance of anti-vaxxers. Oh and I am most certainly not left wing!

So, the New Normals are discussing the Unvaccinated Question. What is to be done with us? No, not those who haven't been "vaccinated" yet. Us. The "Covidiots." The "Covid deniers." The "science deniers." The "reality deniers." Those who refuse to get "vaccinated," ever. There is no place for us in New Normal society. The New…

I'm sure none of you will bother reading this: https://www.lewrockwell.com/2021/03/...e-great-reset/

[S[ocialism . . . is . . . the society that must emerge if humanity is to cope with . . . the ecological burden that economic growth is placing on the environment . . . . [C]apitalism must be monitored, regulated, and contained to such a degree that it would be difficult to call the final social order capitalism.”

    – Robert Heilbroner, “After Capitalism,” The New Yorker, Sept. 10, 1990

The above quotation by socialist economist, the late Robert Heilbroner, was written in the context of an article that lamented and mourned the worldwide collapse of socialism in the Soviet Union in the late 1980s. The great debate between capitalism and socialism was over, he said, and Ludwig von Mises was right about socialism all along, said a man who had spent the past half century promoting socialism in his teaching, speaking, and writing. But do not despair, he told his fellow socialists, for there is one more trick up our sleeves, namely, the Trojan Horse of achieving socialism under the guise of “environmentalism.”
