    Why are we commemorating D-day?

Every time we commemorate D-day as some sort of progress in WW2, I reflect on the stupid loss of life that it incurred. Have a look at this unsanitised account on Zerohedge. I had to stop reading after a few paragraphs.
"My God, we're coming in at the right spot, but look at it! No shingle, no wall, no shell holes, no cover. Nothing!"

All commemoration of war should be considered to be remembering something that was tragic and that we should do everything possible to avoid in the future.

Commemorating war should never be seen as a celebration of what might have been 'won', always as remembrance of the lives lost.
