No interest in student flat for next academic year

My student flat, which often has tenants for the next academic year by March, has had no interest. Anyone else experiencing the same? Not sure what to do- hope for an upturn, or consider re marketing to professionals?

Have found similar - last year and this year very slow. Not really surprising given the uncertainty students have had. Think they are being more careful before diving in and committing to something they may not be able to live in.

I was just getting worried about our student house when we got an enquiry last week and they loved it and took it. Lots of post grad courses being confirmed over the next few weeks so still time to find people.

I usually advertise via the university but found that very slow so also went with Open Rent this year which had a lot.of time wasters but also delivered me my nice new tenants.

    Best of luck

Thanks Bethy that is encouraging. I feel optimistic still. I’m going to be repainting all 3 bedrooms so maybe that will help too. Hope your tenants are good ones!

I think it is worth reviewing everything e.g. internet so that your place is a great offering. For the last two academic years we have been requested to reduce rents so flexibility ( and generosity) may also be a factor when trying to attract new students.

Until about 2 weeks ago I was having the same thoughts about professionals however we use agents who specialise in letting to students - they are expensive but this year it has been worth it as they have found tenants for the next academic year. Phew!

Still no interest. Spent all weekend there repainting the bedrooms, they look a lot better now . Which has made me realise that the rest of the decor is also looking tired. Wondering about putting in a new kitchen if I can find someone to do it over the summer. I would even rent out at a bit of a discount if necessary. I am a good landlord and get things fixed promptly and usually return all of the deposit even if for example the cleaning isn’t done at check out ( I pay for that myself) . But this year I guess this year I may need to be flexible with my offering, internet is a good point AlexR .
