Sorry - what do you mean by Notice expire? He give 28 days notice on 1st March, which means 28th March should be his last day. Is that what you mean?

When does his notice -if valid - expire? As long as that is no earlier than when he leaves that's fine, I would expect him to pay rent, pro-rated, to that day.
