I've had the same problem. It seems to be a common scam these days. Also the 'estimated bill' for a huge amount when the property is empty even though they have exact readings via a smart meter.

How can they charge you for energy you haven't used?

Energy firm refuse to accept my readings

A new tenant moved in on 2nd August. I video recorded opening readings, and also entered them on tenancy agreement. Later that day I went online & entered the opening readings for my tenant. They sent me a bill using completely different readings, effectively charging me for my tenant's energy until about December.

I rang & spoke to some guy in the Philipines, and gave him the correct readings a week ago. The online bill still shows the incorrect readings, and I have now written by email & post to correct them.

This seems to be a common ploy nowadays. I wonder what readings they start my tenant's account on?

    Any thoughts?
