      That's right. Actually, the ground and first floor of the main house are also separately rated, but it basically looks like a normal house inside, and council have confirmed in writing that we can live in these two floors without further planning permission, and merge the council taxes into one. But yes, we will keep the other two flats as separate taxes.

      Interestingly our solicitor has suggested we might get multiple dwelling relief on the SDLT as it's one property but 3 or 4 dwellings. However, even the HMRC's own advice on this is really complex and changed a couple of times in 2016, so it's anybody's guess.
