    Access to flat for building works

    Hi, I am a tenant in a privately let flat in London. My landlady wants to replace my windows but only told me yesterday that she wants the work to be done next week. She cannot confirm that the work will complete by the end of next week and I go away next Friday. I don't want the work done while I'm away and I don't want it done next week if they can't guarantee it will be finished. Do I have the right to say they can't do it until I get back from holiday or not?

    Property is let in England (London) and is Assured Shorthold Tenancy, I am the sole tenant and moved in on 1st March 2008 on an initial 12 month agreement. Rent is payable monthly (calendar month). I paid a deposit when I moved in and my landlady does not live in the same property.

    Yes you have the right.

    The landlady has the right to evict you for no reason at all.
    I am legally unqualified: If you need to rely on advice check it with a suitable authority - eg a solicitor specialising in landlord/tenant law...

        Are the windows being replaced because they need replacing, or does the landlord just want to upgrade the property?
