I wonder if you could advise me please.
I moved into a rented property in December 2012 - signed all the paperwork and paid a deposit.
Two days before moving in, I received a call from the letting agent that the landlady had left the Gas Safety check until the last minute and it had unfortunately failed.
There was a gas leak in the kitchen - could be the boiler or the hob - but the gas/heating/cooker would be off until it was fixed after Christmas.
It was inconvenient but I got through Christmas and the plumbers then came and replaced both boiler and hob. A week passed and no sign of a Gas Safety Certificate so I emailed the letting agent who sent me the GSC from when the leak was identified.
I asked if a new certificate had been issued for the new appliances and was told they aren't required to provide one - the existing GSC stating the failures and that the gas had been shut off is sufficient to meet the landlords legal requirements.
Is this right?
I might just be worrying over nothing but I'd feel better with a certificate confirming all is safe than one identifying a leak 'somewhere in the kitchen'. If I'm not entitled to a new one then obviously I'll drop the issue.
