Will council rehouse regulated tenant, so I can alter flat?

I am planning to do significant repair to a flat with a regulated tenant, and the surveyor suggested that I needed to move the tenant out while the builders are carrying out the work. I know it is very expensive for me to rent a temporary private place in this area to move the tenant there, so I have a few questions and hope someone can help:

Can I approach the local council to find a temprary place for the tenant? If the answer is Yes then do I have the right to move a regulated tenant to a concil property or it has to be a private property?

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Nothing to stop you asking the local council - but I expect the answer to be no because of the legal ramifications for them (i.e. the council) in taking on a short term tenant - for example, what happens when the tenant decides he likes the council property better than yours and refuses to move - who pays the cost of evicting etc.?

One way you may not have thought of, but you might not like it. Book your holidays to coincide with the work (3 to 4 weeks perhaps) - move tenant under a licence to occupy your home and hope that he/she is under conscience enough not to piss you about when the work is complete - you would be guaranteed to get a possession order if it went belly up, but it would of course take time.

Only other option is find another landlord with a spare property who does not mind a very short let - and mind the flying pigs!!!!!!

Thanks for your comment David, I don't mind to move him into my home but it is not in the same area (about 2-3 miles away and not in the same borough), so I guess he would not want to move there.
