End of tenancy before starting date

    Hi all

I have signed a fixed term sub-tenancy contract with a postdated starting date (02/03/10) and paid one month rent + deposit.

On 01/03/10, a day before that starting date, I have resigned from the contract because I got transferred to a different city by my employer.

The Landlord agreed to return the deposit but not the rent (one month).

Is he right to do so?

Can I ask for my money back?

    Cheers

You are at least a bit cheeky in seeking the unilateral ability to walk away from a binding contract.
How would you feel if the tables had been turned and it was L who agreed to let to you then changed his mind on the day before you were to move-in?

      You can ask anything.
He could ask for you to pay the rent for the entire term.
Allow tenants to protect their own deposits. I want free money when they do it wrong
