ex-Landlord counter claims my claim .... help

Hi there all,

I sued my ex landlord over my unreturned deposit, through moneyclaim online but he counter claimed. Is this good or bad, and is there anything i should know before replying? I figure I have to reply his counter claim, but what happens to my initial claim?

The case: he's not returning deposit, and is actually outrageously claiming more money for refurbishment of the apartment. (for a pen scribble on a wall, he wants to repaint the whole room, for a 1ft wide stain on carpet, he want to re-carpet the house).

On your reply, you firstly answer/comment on his defence, then you need to respond to every point of his counterclaim - even if each response is simply,"I did not do this" or "this was damaged when I moved in".

He will have to prove the damanges so if they are ficticious, don't worry about it, though if you have any evidence to dis-prove it, it won't do any harm.
