    Hi.
    My deposit was for £500.

I gave the LL £75 in cash and transferred £425 to his account (as I recieved it back from previous LL).

he has told me my deposit is protected but how do I confirm this? I have been on the site but it asks for an identification number which I dont have.
    Any help would be great.

Call the 3 deposit protection schemes; giving the property address should be sufficient to check whether the deposit has been protected.

LL ought to have provided you with what is called the 'prescribed information', basically details of the scheme, the reference number, etc.

Write to LL requesting this. If you want to be formal about it, say the information regarding deposit protection is required under s.213(5) of the Housing Act 2004.

As with all correspondence with a LL, whether it's about the deposit, reporting disrepair or giving notice, etc, it is advisable to write a letter on paper, take a copy, post first class with a free certificate of posting from the PO, and file copy and certificate.

You never know when you may need such evidence, because there are an awful lot of legalities relating to renting. People can claim they didn't receive an email, so a letter is better.

Did LL give you a receipt for the £75 paid in cash?

      Here's a link to the deposit statute - see sections 212 - 215.

No he hasn't given a receipt. I asked for one but he has not produced one as of yet.

Don't hand over cash without getting a receipt in exchange. Hopefully, the LL will give you a receipt but just bear this in mind for the future.

I did ask but he was in a rush and said he would get one sorted. My letting agent and partner were there aswell.

I will be asking for a reciept first thing monday.
