  • LandlordZONE forums slowdown

Over the last few days has anyone else experiencing either slow connections to the forum website or slow completion of message postings?

My system is ok because other websites were coming up promptly when LandlordZONE was not.

Could the forum be becoming too popular for the allocated bandwidths - or some other techy term to describe meltdown?

Edit Perhaps it is not numbers because there are only 3 members and 35 guest online right now.

It does do it from time to time, as us long term members are unfortunately used to! I'm sure it will be sorted in a couple of days.

The moral of the story is don't click again on your post to speed things up!

You end up getting four copies of the same post and you are punished by the pain of having to slowly delete the surplus ones!!

This website nodoubt shares a server with many others and the response time depends on how much access all the websites on this server are attracting. This varies with time - sometimes the site refuses to come up at all but an hour or so later it is functioning at top speed aagin.

        P.P.
Any information given in this post is based on my personal experience as a landlord, what I have learned from this and other boards and elsewhere. It is not to be relied on. Definitive advice is only available from a Solicitor or other appropriately qualified person.

The last few days the forums have been very, very slow during the daytime and sometimes offline.

I can understand slow speeds on an amateur site where there are cost problems in maintaining an adequate service. This is a professional site with a substantial number of sponsored adverts.

It must be frustrating for those working from offices to have the system clogged whilst waiting for a new post to be uploaded to the system!

Fortunately I work from home and can save things and come back later!!

No, I don't know why the slowdown but it has happened before and I have no doubt Tom Entwhistle is tearing his hair out to solve the problem as he has on previous occasions. If it goes on too long, use the 'contact us' button on, you will get a reply.

              LandlordZONE - Slowdowns

Yes, I'm sorry but we have been experiencing some slowdowns recently. Our hosts have been informed and they are working on it. Please be patient - we will sort this our one way on another.
I suspect that part of the problem is to do with the fact that we have recently installed a much more powerful MySQL database for our DIRECTORY entries and also for a more powerful SEARCH facility. This is possibly stretching our capacity, though we are not sure yet.
The Directory is slowly building and the intention is to create the best property related resource for rental property suppliers in the UK. For example, if you want a Solicitor that specialises in rental property - landlord & tenant law - see: Solicitors & Legal.
The improved Search facility will enable users to find what they are looking for very quickly, whether it's information or suppliers.
If the problem persists we may need to up-grade our server capacity once again, though I suspect the current problem is not about capacity - we've done this before and are at the maximum capacity on the present server. The next step will involve another considerable jump in costs - I guess we are victims of our own success here.

I have a problem with the search facilty, on a forums main page if I try a search the search link does not work (I get a "Done, but with errors on the page message" in the status bar) but if I open a thread and and click the search link it does work, I dont know if its my PC or something going wrong elsewhere.

                  Search

                  Energise,

You are quite right, the search facility on the forum is sometimes unreliable. I find that if you "right click" and "open" the search does open and it works. However, I think you will find the Search facility on the main LandlordZONE site (top of every page) is more powerful and covers the forum as well - we'll have a link on the forum to this soon.

I too have had major issues getting onto the site over the last few days. Not so much slow as at a standstill....is very strange.

Sad to say opening the forum pages today has been impossible at times.

When logged on the pages are very, very slow to change - unfortunately the site is just limping along.

Let's hope the necessary repair works are completed soon - I'm sure we don't need to serve a notice

                          Good News

After posting the above message the site seems to have speeded up again and links to various threads and messages are responding promptly.

                          Hope this improvement is maintained.

Today has been another slow day and the forum has only accelerated to a reasonable speed this evening.

Wonder how many new participants are put off by this intermittent service. If I were not a 'regular' and knew the situation would eventually improve I would possibly opt out.

With all due modesty I would stress you missed some valuable contributions from me this afternoon as I didn't have time to hang around!
