New to being a tenant; any pointers please?

Great forum, just spent a few hours reading threads and getting some info regarding renting.

We have just applied to rent a house, we wont find out until the new year if we have got it.

So far so good with the agent, all docs shown at viewing, house very clean and they even take dogs!!

    any tips for us?

Pay on time and be a good tenant!

In turn always let the landlord know of any defaults that need doing rather than ignore them and allow enough time for them to be done

Other than that you should be fine. A nice tenant/landlord relationship is always a bonus!

    Good Luck

If you read this site a lot, you might get the impression that all tanants are rogues and all landlords unsympathetic money grabbers who never pay to repair their properties! Nothing could be further from the truth and you read here of the problems caused by the small minority. You will learn what to expect from your landlord and what he will expect in return. The majority of landlords are good, responsible property owners and the majority of tenants are good honest people who respect and look after their landlord's property while making their home in it. Landlord Lee's advice above is spot on, and if you have any queries, you are welcome to post them here for authoritative replies from landlords, other tenants, property letting agents and even practicing lawyers!

Any information given in this post is based on my personal experience as a landlord, what I have learned from this and other boards and elsewhere. It is not to be relied on. Definitive advice is only available from a Solicitor or other appropriately qualified person.
