Paying rent in cash - no tenant rights!

It beggars belief, but in todays "The Mirror" there is an article about living without a bank account (on the back of the BBCs article about the same).

"RENT" (big X - apparently you cannot pay rent in cash)

Some private landlords will accept cash for room rental, but the vast majority prefer the security of knowing they have your bank details so you won't be able to disappear. Remember you waive tenant rights if you pay by cash"

Email being sent to right now, with one to the PCC to follow. Absolutely unbelievable trash (and irresponsible) journalism.
Liability statement. My liability to you is not to exceed the amount you are paying for my recommendations or advice.

I see a bright new future, where chickens can cross the road with no fear of having their motives questioned

Good letter - hope it works.

There is good reason to a bit cynical about supposedly specialist knowledge in newspaper reports, especially in the redtops and rags like the Mail. You'd think they'd get someone who does know their stuff at least to check what they've written. So many times, they just get it plain wrong, the worst culprits being the so called 'science' and 'medical' correspondents. The average GCSE student could explain things more accurately.

That's my little rant for the day. I feel better now!
'Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation fo the first link on one memorable day'. Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

Most "stories" originate from the same 2 sources - News Agencies and PR firms. This why they appear in different papers with, often, only minor changes via "Cut & Paste.

      Very little checking occurs.
