!! Confusing Thatcher for Marx??? Apart from anything else, Marx would not have used such language....

Quite right! The memory gets confused with old age.

Just like some poor souls on here have very confused memories of the dire state of private renting before Lady Thatcher's 1988 Housing Act.

Wonder who those poor souls would be eh, as it ain't me! I was a landlord in the early 1980's, had a tenant paying £10/week for the whole top floor of a very nice house in Twickenham.

When I installed Central Heating for the rest of the house I offered her a hot tap for her sink, gratis - the only washing facilities (she really really didn't want to be disturbed with radiators going in. : She was most suspicious, thinking it was either a cunning plan to evict her or to put the rent up (I didn't). She, Stella, had been there since at least the 1950's and oddly used to get a significant pension by post from the Norwegian embassy. Can still just about remember these events through my confused memory.

        Cheers all!
