    Carpet moths.

I'm refurbishing a property after a near twenty year tenancy. The carpet will be coming out but it's clear carpet moths have enjoyed a long tenancy too. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? If so has the problem continued after the carpet was replaced? I understand the eggs can be in between floorboards and under skirting and doors. I guess the answer is to put down laminate or carpet with no wool content but I don't want any moths that are still around to migrate to the curtains. There's always pest control but maybe I'm worrying too much.

Hey, if you've got 20 years out of carpeting good/lucky for you, think you have have saved enough money to do so treatment work...

Many thanks. Yes, I've been very fortunate with these tenants. Have just been reading up some more on carpet moths. Apparently they can even survive in synthetic carpeting but not as well. I think laminate may be the way to go.

Get rid of curtains as well, as sadly these aren't immune. Then get the place treated before replacing anything. (I fit venetian blinds in my properties nowadays, to at least avoid one source of moths.)

Get a permethrin insecticide and spray it everywhere on floor, carpet and curtains.
          Keep cats out.

          Available from good outdoor/treking shops.

PS. is it moths or beetles?

The little blighters are almost impossible to eradicate once people move in and they have more places to hide - and t will not be pleased if his clothes are full of holes. I would second the advice to get pest control in.

Many thanks for the advice which I will take. On the plus side, because it's a complete refurbishment, new flooring won't go down until January so a combination of treatment and nothing for any remainers to feed on will hopefully sort the problem completely.

Also, you might want to be very careful while you're working on the place Mystic. My house has been plagued with moths the last couple of years. I suspect this is due to hungry hitchhikers coming home on my work overalls in my bag, from the flat I have been working on.

Many thanks. Yes I'm stripping off just inside the back door when I go home much to the delight of my husband!

Mde B - I think I have both moths and beatles. I have had two telephone quotes this morning. One is £395 plus vat and the other ( a company with excellent reviews on Checkatrade) is £72 including vat.

He might be good but I wouldn't trust checkatrade reviews, they make their money from the trader. I had a bad experience with a roofer.

Yes. The likes of Trust Pilot can't be trusted entirely either. I have to say though the tradesmen I've used via Checkatrade have been fine so far. Fingers crossed with this one. I think the difference in the quotes is one is an independent sole tradesman and the other more expensive one is a franchise / national company.

When we used Checkatrade to find a roofer, we chose a local family firm with over 40 years experience, and had a good read of the reviews. We were then able to recommend them to our next door neighbour.
