    Rent increase acknowledgement

    I would like to increase my tenant's rent and have the necessary form and will give the correct notice etc. How is best to deliver the notice? Is email acceptable, should it be delivered by hand, does it need to be acknowledged? If i post it, can the tenant deny having received it? Unless the increase is challenged, do i just wait and see what happens and presume the higher rent will be paid from the date advised?


    If I'm going to increase rents I usually write, on paper and or email a nice letter saying the rent is going up and giving reasons such as market forces, increased insurance etc. giving the start date of the new payment - ' from and including your December payment'.

    I don't include the Form 13 unless I know tenant is on benefits of some kind. I do ask them to acknowledge receipt by text/email. Works every time for me.

      The only acknowledgement that matters is that the tenant starts paying the increased amount of rent. Then that's the agreed rent.

      If tenant doesn't start paying then simply serve a valid s21...

      Really no point any other paperwork, IMHO
      I am legally unqualified: If you need to rely on advice check it with a suitable authority - eg a solicitor specialising in landlord/tenant law...
