    Letting out property to council

    Hi all,

I have recently inherited a new flat which is in a good area (valued around £125k, built around 7 years ago, east of scotland area). I know civil law is different from the rest of the UK, but is it worth the hastle to let my property to the council? Furthermore, say for example I do let it out to them, does the council pay rental income without a tenant?

Also, sorry if this is in the wrong area of the forum.

    Thank you in advance

It should be in the Scottish forum, however the answer will be the same: don't do it.

Never ever ever do it. Even more never in Scotland.

No, council do not pay rent without a T, hence they will install a T they are fin diding difficulty in placing ie someone the LL would normally reject.
The Council is your T,not the resident occupier.
        Don't even consider Council option.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess the council option is out the window then.

What is the best way to attract a long term tenant?

As an 'accidental landlord', unless you intend to do your homework on all the legal stuff, I would recommend you find yourself a good agent.
