  • Person signed tenancy and now doesn't want to move in

    Hi all, a newbie here.

So I have my new tenants all lined up, they come with good references etc and are moving because their previous landlord chose to sell up.

Their landlord has now decided not to sell and they do not want my property anymore, what should I do?

So far the tenancy is due to start in a few days but they have not yet paid anything other than the fees to the agency.

Any advice would be good at this point as I have never had this before!

Be pleased they didn't move in, no money, no rent paid & you with a 7-9 month eviction fight. You got off cheap!

yes I'd let that go too. Life's too short and, who knows, you may find them turning up for a viewing in future so best not to burn that bridge. The flake here is their landlord, not the tenants.

    Let it go.
Stuff like this happens and it's best just to move on and let it to someone else.

KTC is right about the legal position.

Find yourself a new tenant, and then sue for losses from breach of contract. That's actual losses, not what would had been rent for the entire term. So let say it takes you two weeks to find someone new to move in, and you pay extra agents fee that you would not otherwise have paid, your losses here would argubly be two weeks worth of rent, and the extra agent fees.

They did but they were not set to move in for another couple of weeks so no money has been paid for deposit or rent yet.

Did they sign a tenancy agreement?
