    Contract and subletting

    Hi,
My name is Julie, I have the problem with renting the house, I am an international student in UK and right now I am renting the house from Thai people I know through the agent, the peoblem is that I want to move out of this house but I already paid up front for the whole year, this sounds weird, there is no contract to sign, no recieve for me when I paid the money and now when I told them I want to move out and they just refuse to return the money. i would like to know if there is a chance I can get my money back(of course the deposit I have to give them) and I can move. Second, they seem to be doing sub-lease and I dont feel right about this...

HOW did you pay the money - cash, cheque, bank transfer? Was there a deposit?

Does agent have an office you can visit?

WHO (owner, agent) did you pay money to?

The "they" subleasing is agent? Did you ever see a tenancy agreement on paper?
I am legally unqualified: If you need to rely on advice check it with a suitable authority - eg a solicitor specialising in landlord/tenant law...
