    Building regs

I received a letter from the council today stating that there are no building regulations for the extension on the flat from work carried out in 2009.

I bought the property in 2012 can the council do anything ? Or do they still have the power to fine me for no building regulations, even though I didn't carry out the work?

Planning permission for the work was approved though.

Yup, they can hold you liable - that is why solicitors check these things when you buy a property. The question is, why didn't yours?

Planning permission = may I do this?
Building Control = this place is still safe.
    different purposes and departments.

And if this was highlighted to you did you take out Indemity Insurance?
There is always scope for misinterpretation.

If my posts can be interpreted in two ways, one that makes you feel angry and one that doesn't, I meant the latter.

Everyday is an opportunity to learn something new.

depending on what work required building regs approval, you might be able to get someone competent to 'sign it off' - do you know who completed the work, they may have been competent under one of the third party accreditation schemes - an example of this FENSA, building control would accept a FENSA cert as evidence of compliance
