    requirement for Flat Conversions to meet Building Regulations 1991?

    Some years ago, we bought a house which was converted into two self-contained flats.

    The previous owners did not seek planning permission. In the local search, it is registered as two properties as well having seperate council tax and it was converted around 1998 to 2002.

    For the purposes of flat conversions, can only tell me the requirements to meet Building Regulations 1991. (I only ask due ot HMO rules, even though the flats are not lets as HMOs...).

    If everything is above board, you have no problems with it being 2 properties
    then no need to worry about the regs.

    If you want to know if your building conforms to any regulations, ask the original
    builder or get a surveyor in to check.
    Could have been a cowboy builder who converted to no regulations at all ?

      However, I don't mind if someone gives me a general idea:

      1. Fire Doors: Do I only need fire door the kitchen or in every room?
      2. Fire Alarm: Electric? CO alarm? Heat Alarm? Emergency Lighting?
      3. Fire resistance betweeen ceiling? 30mins? (e.g. two plasterboard?)
