You are entitled to see proof of expenditure (invoices and receipts) by the freeholder/management company. Put the request in writing so that you have a record of what you asked for and when.
Take a look at the Leasehold Advisory Service website for more information.

Querying Service Charge details
Has anyone been in a position where they have to pay service charges which seem excessive?
Apart from challenging the management company to explain why things cost so much(and indirectly accusing them of theft), is there another way to investigate this?Tags: None

Reply to Responsibility on my freeholdby MacromiaHas this extension already been built?
If so, what was agreed when the co-freeholder asked for permission to extend?
If not, you can probably withhold permission unless they agree to take full responsibility for the roof in future (and might even be able to demand a premium from them).-

I am joint freeholder with the property upstairs and have had issues with our roof leaking. After many repairs paying my 50% to the cost, the upstairs owner has decided to extend into the loft space and onto 50% of the flat roof at the back. I thought this would reduce the cost to me to the front of...

by MacromiaThe first question that needs to be answered has to be:
"Does the lease allow the freeholder to replace the radiators in the property?"
If the answer to this is "No" (e.g. if the leases specifically exclude radiators within the property from the definition of 'conduits',...-

by SouthernDaveIf someone has left the filling loop open then that’s pretty dangerous! Most systems only run at 1bar and will dump any pressure over that amount. Mains pressure is a lot higher and a heating system isn’t designed for that....

by WAMAn external water leak via a very short inward-curving pipe from an upstairs maisonette (owned by a freeholder, but inhabited by rental tenants) is pouring water down the outside wall of my kitchen (I am a leaseholder).
This water is making its way into my internal kitchen wall, probably...-

by AndrewDodI'm only going to respond very briefly now. You need to be distinguishing three completely separate things.
a) Whether the works are the responsibility of the lessor to carry out.
b) Whether they need to be carried out, and if so whether the procedure was followed.
c) Whether...-

by roywAre you reasonably handy? I would run a length of downpipe from the overflow into the hopper head. Though if it was me I'd have turned their water off as soon as they started being awkward....

by nukecadAs said the short inward curving pipe is the boiler overpressure overflow.
There will be a 'filling loop' usually underneath.the boiler.
It is used to repressure the heating system if the pressure falls through bleeding radiators etc.
It usually has a quarter turn valve...-
