    setting up new agency

    Hi guys

A friend and I are considering setting up and Estate Agency in Hertfordshire. We are currently running a renovations company with projects around Hertfordshire and London. From our research so far, the main hurdle seems to be getting the properties we have for rent and sale onto the main portals (rightmove, zoopla etc). Clearly we don't want to pay the monthly cost of advertising with these portal as we start off.

My questions are, what are the options of getting our for sale and rent stock on to these portals, is now the right time to setup an agency. Do we have to join any member bodies.

Any advice from current Estate Agents would be appreciated, including any pitfalls we should watch out for.

You've never 'done' estate agency before and you're asking the most basic of questions AND you want to start a business doing it? Best of luck.

My advice would be to get a job in an Estate agents and see what it entails. You can at least write it off as a bad idea then with minimum outlay.

The answer is don't as the opposition will crucify you by highlighting your lack of experience and where your expertise really belongs.
