    New Landlord to be

Hi there - I will be a new landlord later this year and this will be my first time undertaking this role. We're moving as a family some distance away from our current home so external management of the property is a must. I've had Haart and Towsends here but wanted to ask what views other landlords have of these two. Or it is better to go for a independent management company. Ideally I need as little interaction with the property we'll be renting out due to new commitments and work etc Thanks in advance.

Use an ARLA Licensed Agent if you are unsure, as you have some built-in safeguards such as insurance against misappropriation of funds up to £5,000, and unprofessional conduct (althought TPO looks after this as well) - look up their website at www.arla.co.uk. These agents are ususally independent and have more of a reputation to uphold rather than "national" agents.

Hi Paul - appreciate the reply, do you think then it's better to go with a smaller local independent agency as opposed to a bigger firm? Cheers again

Usually the answer will be "yes" but it depends on their background. I would be asking lots of questions.
