Limited company looking to the future

    Morning all,

I’m not sure if this is the correct forum to post but here goes anyway!

We have 3 BTL properties - 2 in own name and 1 in Ltd company as it worked out best for tax purposes.

I’m thinking about the future (30 years down the road) about the strategy for retirement and was wondering if anyone wanted to share their experiences/tips.

I’m considering using the funds that accrue in the Ltd company to pay down the mortgage (70% currently). So in retirement the income will be greater when the tax bands will be lower for us etc. But also thinking about if that’s the smartest thing to do when considering inheritance too - maybe it’s better for us to have a mortgaged property within the Ltd company and for us to do something else with any funds - withdraw (correctly in line with income & tax considerations - re-invest etc.

I’m going to seek professional advice but always carry out some research myself and it’s always good to hear what others have done/ have planned.

i think the Limited Company route is potentially advantageous but it is impossible to guess what Future Chancellors will do to help themselves to property owners' income and asset. At lease if you have a limited company you have a bit more flexibility, you can either draw dividends, a salary (or a combination) and if you lend money to your private company unsecured you can pay yourself interest at a higher rate than available elsewhere.

When it comes to Taxation and property in a Limited company I always advise clients to discuss such questions with a good accountant , brokers and the Bar Room specialist are not authorised to provide such advice. For the sake of spending a few pounds it might prove very beneficial in the long run.

No accountant can predict for statute that doesn't yet exist. Ultimately the client has to take a view
