60 year old extractor fan

Finally had to admit defeat today, and replace the original 1961 bathroom & toilet extractor fan in my oldest flat. Although still working, it made a hell of a racket. The old one is all metal, and fit into galvanised steel ducting hidden behind plasterboard. Sadly, I've had to replace it with a plastic one, though I bought the best one I could find.

Now, the question is, should I buy a spare one to provide a quick substitute when it breaks, like I do with electric showers?

NO.
In 20 years you fit your spare, and it does not work, you can't get a refund or free replacement after 2,5,10,20 years.

It takes one day to get standard part from the builders suppliers / 3 day in the post.

Ask if you should buy a replacement boiler, in case one of your fails in Feb' at minus 6c outside ?
Again, answer is no.
