I wouldn't even consider replacing a working septic tank.
When I post, I am expressing an opinion - feel free to disagree, I have been wrong before.
Please don't act on my suggestions without checking with a grown-up (ideally some kind of expert).

i wish there was an alternative to the privatge sewage works we have on one of our estates, miles from mains drainage.

I don’t really fancy replacing it either, but I really wouldn’t want anyone official taking too hard a look at the existing septic tank. On the other hand, I’m confident that it isn’t causing pollution so probably all that any official could do is require its replacement. Maybe it’s a can to keep kicking down the road for the moment!

I doubt any official will want to take a close look either. Is there any reason they would want to investigate? Neighbour's is 60 years old and still as good as when it was built.
