Commercial Lease with no license to assign in place.

The commercial property I occupy was assigned to my mother in 1987 (as a legal requirement in the 60 year lease, expires 2039). My mother passed 1992 and I inhertied the lease, however it appears the solicitor never applied to have to have the lease assigned. I continued to occupy and pay rent. Where do I stand and should the landlord have corrected the issue when they became aware in 1995.

Does the lease say that assignment is only allowed with the landlord's consent?

'This License shall only extend to the permission hereby actually given and shall not permit any further or other assignment underletting or parting with the possession of the premises demised by the Lease or any part thereof without further License in writing first obtained and is not to prejudice or affect any covenants or conditions in the Lease to be observed and performed'

This is taken from the lease.
