Hello I bought a shop about 4 weeks ago which is let out. The shops front court has some wasteland (and have some building material dumped on it-it is in a fenced area with no access to it). The next door shop (selling clothes) came round and said that the water entered into her shop though floor and spoiled some of her stock and asking for compensation. Her shop floor is about 10 inch lower then mine property.
The building material has been left at the forefront of the my shop for nearly 3 years by the previous owner for more than 3 years and I am not sure if the neighbour has raised the same concerns unsuccessfully with the previous owner and now when I bought the property came after me seeing the opportunity me as a new owner. My property is not logged with water (but I cannot access the non accessed area as entry is restricted by erected fence).
Am I responsible for the damage? What are my options?
